  CHEERS MATE! (an experience with jdubs at a stag)

  a couple of years ago a cousin of mine was getting married, so the boys had a little stag party for him.

  nothing major, just some drinking and a couple of rounds of pool.

  as we received our drinks at the bar, i naturally raised my glass to clink it with theirs.

  After the article g00 1/8 27 A Balanced View of Popular Customs, which contained the statement: " it is more important to consider what the custom means to people at the time and in the place where one now lives" (emphasis in original), various JWs wrote to the WTS and asked whether toasting was now allowable. The responses they got back basically said that it was okay. None of those letters was ever published by the WTS, however

  .So, could this mean then that the WTS is starting to 'set the table' for a more liberal view of Christmas, Birthdays, ect too? I really doubt it - but just thinking out loud. After all, I do not know a single person who celebrates xmas that thinks he is harkening back to the days of the pagans from which some of the customs are linked.

  As for clinking glasses - since the day we faded we do.

  i have a problem with this.

  do they know what the right thing is?

  this must mean that college is worse today than it was years ago, but is now okay to attend?

  I think you hit several 'nails on the head' here. I had nearly identical thoughts just a year or so back, when we started the 'fade'. I still do, but have enlarged them to include a deliberate attempt to mislead me and you, and 6 million others. Wifey and I also left nearly 50 years of exclusive association behind us. I know right where you are, keep pressing ahead.

  There is no way that the leaders in Brooklyn are unaware of what you state here, and much much more. This makes them culpable. There is no escaping that. Due to gaining that perspective, I have gone from viewing them as just ignorant and misdirected, to seeing them as malicious misinformants. And that misinformation has caused some to loose life itself in support or these doctrinal 'truths'.

  Long story short - IF part of it ain't the truth, it all ain't the truth. Hence I reject all of the spoiled apple, and am trusting the Bible alone.

  i'm really concerned for my sister and her husband.

  they both got df'd last thurs.

  and i found out today cause my mom called crying histerically telling me the news.

  Sorry to hear of your and your sis's situation. My thoughts are with you thru all this.

  Just remember whom you are dealing with here. These elders [like most elders] are brain inactivated, emotionally anethesized, insolar in knowledge, followers of men. Mostly they are overcome with the idea that they are part of the 'one true faith' commissioned by Christ in 1919.

  In short they are brainwashed members of a cult-like religion. They will always act like it. It will always cause others pain. And it will always dishonor the very God they claim they worship.

  I know the anger - I have been there. I try to substitute pity for them, and concentate on those I can help out of this mind-captivity.

  i feel at this time, in my long and varied career here at the forum, i must protest to the exalted and respected administator of this site, that a problem does exist in it's "labeling" of posters.

  this concerns the titles that are given to posters when they reach a certain amount of posts.

  I also think that the labeling system smacks of what I felt whilst a JW. LABELS, LABELS AND MORE LABELS. You know the drill. DO, CO, PO, ELDER, MS, SPECIAL PIONEER, PIONEER, AUXILIARY PIONEER, PUBLISHER, UNBAPTIZED PUBLISHER, DISFELLOWSHIPPED, DISASSOCIATED, APOSTATE, BOTTOM OF THE TOILET SCUMBAG, etc.

  Cathy - Good points all. I am also a 'senior member' but have only been on the site for a very short few months.

  I did always hate the witness labels too. I call it 'automatic judgementalism'. In one word a witness knows the character, attitude, and spirituality of one whom they may have never met!!

  I have seen some of your occasional posts, and respect your words. I do notice too the portion that mentions how long one has been 'enrolled' here, and so don't think others don't note your site 'maturity'.

  No bad judgements from this chair.

  We used to have them in Toledo until a few years back. Back then we used the University of Toledo facilities.

  Looks like they are going to make a major effort 'evangelize' b4 the conventions. If they can't get people to the local KH, why do they think they will come to the convention?

  1. He grudgingly says hello and violates 2 John 10-11 according to the WTS's teachings. In this case you will have to smile and say "2 John 10 and 11" every time he greets you.

     LMAO! Somewhere!

  Will this guy get 'public reproof' from the store manager then. Or perhaps a full fledged 'marking'. I doubt he will be disfellowshipped from Walmart!

  When I was 'in', I thought we were inundating the world - that was illusion and fantast I guess.

  Since I am out - I never see witnesses in service except when they stop for coffee at the place I go in the morning. They rarely stop there now - since I force them to talk to me kindly. I am on the 'shunning list' - right at the top I think - but I make them follow thier own rules. I am not DF'd and I will not allow them to be bastards without interference! [sorry bad word]

  How many of you were nervous?

  if you are taught the jw organization is your link to god, it is so hard to think of leaving everything.

  like a hole that will not be filled again, there is so horrible things that have happened in the world, could it be that there is no everlasting life for us, so many questions and to think of giving up everyone makes me sick to my stomach.

  but i want to be happy and i'm not, does anyone feel empty?

  LT, I like what you said regarding concentrating ones focus on God as well, re-establishing a relationship with him as ones primary focus, though I cannot help but stress the importance of being informed as to the available literature, if nothing else at least reading Crises of Conscience, that's what was needed for me, though I try not to speak for anyone else.

  I needed it to take down the wall of disillusionment, brick by brick as I was so pre-conditioned to believing that the WTBTS was the embodiment of God in the form of man run religion, imperfect men running the organisation, but still ultimately run by God. It took incredible amounts of energy to break down this belief system.

  I agree entirely - I have spent sooo much energy getting that illusion disassembled! I have read everything I could get my hands on - I recognized the need to import a variety of opinions and ideas into a mind that had been solely dominated by one source - the WTBTS. That is not to say that I accept all or even sometimes much of what I have read by certain authors - but it has helped me to 'open up' my worldview and get prepared to meet a world of ideas and philosophy that I never knew.

  Kinda like a new birth -at the ripe young age of 50! But the journey has been worth all the work.
